About Me/Review Process/Star Rating

Hello Hello!

My name is Jen and I am a book reviewer, book blogger and book promoter. I have been running this blog for a few years now, and I am loving every minute of it! I am here to promote the work of hardworking authors and their amazing and imaginative stories. Though I cannot give every book a 5 star review, I do my best to be as honest and constructive as possible.

A little bit about me:

I live on the West Coast of the United States and work as a licensed funeral director and crematory operator. I love plants, paddle-boarding, swimming, hiking, roller skating, cooking/baking, hot springs and spending time with my friends and family. I started this blog in 2015 and have had the opportunity to read countless amazing stories by various talented authors. Though I still have a lot of love for my YA and Fantasy stories, I am developed a fondness for horror, thriller and various fiction stories.

Reviewing Process for Authors:

If you would like me to review one of your books or a series, please go to my “Contact” section and send me an email. I naturally prefer hard copies, but will gladly accept Nook Ebook versions (.EPUB, .ACSM and .PDF) and Kindle Ebook versions (.MOBI).

I post all of my reviews on this website, and Amazon.com, Goodreads.com, BarnesandNoble.com, Facebook.com, Google+, Instagram, Bloglovin’.com, and Twitter.

When reviewing a book, I consider all elements of the story such as overall story-line/plot, writing style and structure, character development and descriptive/creative writing involved. Depending on the book, my reviews will focus on one aspect more than an another. In my reviews I take into account how effectively the author can grab my attention and if they can hold it, if I am able to connect with the characters, and if the story can affect my emotions at all.

Genre of books that I will read and review: I am open to any genre, except erotica. Though these are generally the books I accept, I am not opposed to branching out into something different. If your book doesn’t fall into one of these categories but you think I may enjoy it, feel free to email me.

Please feel free to email me for reviews or for any questions/comments.

Star Rating Guide:

My star ratings are very complicated guys, so bear with me (sarcasm). I might include half star ratings in a review, which plainly means that I was on the fence when it came to deciding.

1-star          – Could barely read it, DO NOT recommend.

2-stars          – Most aspects were negative, not recommended.

3-stars          – More positives than negatives, recommended.

4-stars          – Great and enjoyable read, highly recommenced!

5-stars          – DIE HARD AMAZING, YOU HAVE TO READ THIS!

  1. I like your explanation of ratings. People freak out when they see a ‘four star’, as if it’s a bad review. I rarely rate on Amazon because of issues of this nature. Five stars to me is exactly how you describe it. Few get there, like anything Barbera Kingsolver. Thanks for the follow.

  2. Thank you for the follow. I am so excited to find your blog. I am looking forward to reading your posts and reviews. As a more “mature” 😉 first time author I have realized many years ago that one is never too old to learn. I finally finished and published my book after 25 years of writing, then not writing, raising a family, teaching…etc. It has indeed been a “labor of love.” Best wishes in 2019!
